All sexual orientations and gender identities are a natural part of the human experience. The following are some of the struggles and challenges encountered by LGBTQIA+ students:
- Exploring one's sexual orientation, gender expression, and/or gender identity
- Exploring one's gender training and gender socialization
- Exploring the coming out process and the experience of outing
- Challenges associated with biphobia, homophobia, transphobia, and heterosexism
- Integration of sexual orientation and/or gender identity with other identities such as race & ethnicity, religious/spiritual affiliations, political ideologies, and family of origin.

- Health (Emotional and Psychological, Physical)
- Relationship Issues (Family, Friendships, Intimate Romantic/Sexual)
Students are encouraged to reach out to CAPS to schedule an appointment with any of the counselors to help with the exploration of identity formation, sexuality, and gender. To make an appointment, please contact CAPS at (860)-685-2910.
CAPS offers an Understanding Self and Others (USO) group for the LGBTQIA+ student community. This USO group is a confidential support space to explore sexual and gender identity, relationships, and emotional well-being, as well as receive support and build community.
